Outreach
Solar Devils is committed to making engineering accessible, engaging, and tangible for students and the broader community. Through hands-on demonstrations and direct interaction with our solar-electric vehicle, we connect classroom concepts to real engineering systems and inspire interest in STEM pathways.
Our outreach emphasizes learning by seeing, asking questions, and interacting with engineers who are actively building and testing real technology.
What we offer
Classroom visits
Team members visit K–12 and high school classrooms to introduce students to renewable energy, engineering fundamentals, and college pathways. Using our solar car as a teaching tool, we tailor presentations to the audience’s age and curriculum, with a strong focus on engagement and Q&A.
Tabling events
We participate in school, university, and community tabling events where attendees can see the vehicle up close, talk directly with team members, and learn how engineering projects are organized and executed.
Community festivals
Solar Devils brings the car to public events and festivals to showcase clean energy technology and student innovation. These events allow the public to interact with the team, understand how solar vehicles work, and see engineering in action outside a classroom setting.
What audiences learn
Renewable energy
How solar energy is generated, stored, and used to power a real vehicle, along with the challenges of efficiency and energy management.
Systems engineering
How mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems work together within a single vehicle, and why coordination across disciplines matters.
Iteration & testing
Why engineering is an iterative process involving prototyping, testing, failure analysis, and continuous improvement.
Team roles
The different roles involved in a large engineering project, from design and manufacturing to business operations, outreach, and project management.
